Since deciding to follow my heart and make photography my full time profession, I have been incredibly blessed and very lucky. There are times that I wonder how much of my success is due to luck and how much due to talent because while I was prepared for an intense struggle of not having a life while I worked day and night – things have been very different.
I have managed to find brides (or rather they have managed to find me) who are looking for simple, beautiful and uncomplicated photographs of their wedding day. I have been able to make the task of capturing beautiful photographs my profession and my life is sweeter because of it. I have managed to achieve my goal of having not one, but two weddings featured online within 12 months of shooting my first wedding. The Knot listed me as one of the best wedding photographers in Australia. Most of all I have been able to meet wonderful people who invite me into their lives and share the most special day of days with them.
All of these things still seem surreal and almost as if I have dreamed them. But now as I begin my next wedding season, I have achieved my goal of being published in a national magazine.
I was privileged to be able to photograph Amanda and Kingsley’s wedding back in April and am even more honoured to see it published in the very first Australian issue of The Knot magazine. It is incredibly humbling and surreal to be able to see my work in a magazine that will be read by so many people. I had a moment when I saw it on the shelf in the newsagent, gasping as I turned each page and saw not only Amanda and Kingsley’s feature but a few of my other images scattered throughout the magazine. I received more than a few stares and Grant took a few steps away from me to avoid being associated with the woman hyperventilating near the bridal magazines.
Perhaps I can dream that one day I will be published in an international magazine or be fortunate enough to photograph a destination wedding. I can dream and if my luck so far is anything to go by, it may just happen.
Here is a sneak peak of the feature and a couple of pages featuring some other photographs of mine. Be sure to head out and grab a copy – The Knot is a gorgeous publication that I am so pleased to be associated with.
