An open letter to my Clients and Friends

May 28, 2012

I don’t know where to begin.

This past weekend I was surrounded by such talent and creativity I had to pinch myself a few times to think how in the world did I get here amongst all this creative magnificence. As I made my way around the bridal fair, I was overwhelmed by the kind words from my peers about my work and I was incredibly humbled by every moment. All the while my heart was pounding with nervousness and concern.

Perhaps it is an artists mentality but I still feel that I am unworthy of the thanks and praise from both my clients and my peers. It feels unreal to be able to do what I do and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. But it never does. And the answer is you.

You who continue to trust me and who let me into your lives and your hearts for not just one incredibly special day but for eternity. If it weren’t for you, I would not be able to live a life of hope and laughter and love and continue to strive to be the best person I can possibly be not only in your lives but in my own life too.

I really am just a girl with a camera trying to capture a bit of beauty in the world while crafting a life that I am proud to live. I never wanted to photograph hundreds of weddings each year – it was always and still is a quality over quantity approach. I never wanted to win awards and accolades – my clients reliving their wedding day through the photographs I captured are enough reward. I never wanted to live the life of a nomad photographing weddings in far, distant places. I just wanted to be respected and appreciated for what I do.

In 2008, I decided that I might have a little talent that could be enough for me to capture good photographs. I was looking for something to give me freedom and photography came my way. It gave me the freedom to be here for my family, to experience the world, to be creative and most importantly, to be proud of the contribution I am making to this world. With the support of my family I decided to take a chance and see if the dream could be a reality.

I cannot thank you enough, my brides and grooms. My friends. It is only you who make this possible and your trust is what allows me to capture the moments I do for you and live a life filled with beauty. I don’t deserve this life and I don’t know it found me but I do now that without you entrusting your most precious of memories in my hands it would not be possible. For giving you joy, gives me joy.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
