It started with a crush on the teacher and finished with two proposals. Maryanne and Ryan met when Ryan was leading a group of new recruits in the Army reserve and Maryanne left a more than memorable impression. Maryanne managed to lose a very expensive military compass and Ryan had no choice but to send out a search party in the bushland to find it. Fortunately they found it but Maryanne thought any chance with the handsome instructor was well over.
However she had a second chance to make a good impression after she had moved on to her own unit and attended a barbecue put on by the ex-recruits for Australia Day and after lots of laughing and flirting, their relationship began to evolve.
While on overseas deployment with the Army, Ryan proposed to Maryanne in the middle of a rain forest. He had borrowed the boss’s jeep and arranged a picnic to pop the question. However on their return to home, the stresses and changes in their lives after their deployment made them rethink their needs and they decided to take a time out. On Ryan’s return from another deployment, Maryanne took matters into her own hands and proposed to Ryan with a pair of custom cuff links.
I was delighted to photograph their wedding over Australia Day weekend in Whiteman Park and Matilda Bay. It was a perfect day with lots of lovely personal touches referencing their relationship and their history in the Army.
Maryanne gifted Ryan a replica of the compass that started it all on their wedding morning. He was so surprised and loved reliving the memory.
Maryanne and Ryan chose to marry at a gorgeous little area called Mussel Pool within Whiteman Park. It was the perfect size for their intimate and beautiful wedding ceremony.
Maryanne’s nephew Lochie was entrusted with their rings that were carried in Ryan’s slouch hat. A beautiful nod to the Australian Army that brought them together and is a large part of their lives.
The beautiful wreath and all the blooms were by Zinnia Floral Designs. I love the organic feel to Natalie and Steph’s arrangements and was delighted to photograph their work again.
Maryanne and her bridesmaids looked amazing thanks to the fabulous Living Dolls.
The reception was held at Matilda Bay restaurant – one of my absolute favourite wedding reception locations in Perth. You can never go wrong with a gorgeous view over the river.
