Stop the glorification of busy

Jun 11, 2013

As I went to the kitchen for another coffee, I told Grant I was almost done with my presentation. “I’m just writing my notes on balancing work and life…”, I said and before I could finish my sentence I could tell by his quick glance that perhaps it wasn’t the best topic to bring up while he made dinner for the 3rd night in a row. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind as I focussed on my workshop and I haven’t spent as much time with my family as I’d have liked.

Instead I have waking nightmares of forgetting my notes and flailing like a goldfish, gasping for air or that I’ll forget how my camera works entirely. Last night I was getting a final dose of encouragement from my mum and today there is no avoiding the fact that I am finally hosting my very first workshop.

The unofficial theme of the workshop has become a variation on “Stop the glorification of busy”. That there is a difference between being productive and being busy and quite often we chase our tails rather than walk along a path with purpose. That we don’t need to celebrate being busy and recognise what is working in our business and what isn’t.

It is my hope that these amazing 9 participants take away at least one thing that they can implement in their own business to allow their business to work for them. Just one thing that will allow them to spend less time in front of the computer and more time thinking of ways to thrill their clients or spending time with their families.

Angela, you did a wonderful job yesterday – no forgetting notes, flailing like a goldfish or gasping for air and your images looked exquisite. Thank you for sharing with us yesterday!

I had the pleasure of attending this wonderful workshop and what an inspiration you are. I walked away with such a great respect for everything you do and how simple it can be by being organised with work and taking time out to enjoy life and family in the process. You have taught me so much I didn’t know about running a business and you have given me such excitement about my own business I cant explain. Im now going to begin changes and think positive about moving up in the world of photography. You ran this workshop with so high confidence and so much useful information, I don’t think anyone could have walked away with nothing. It was such a pleasure meeting you and your kind soul and thank you so much for allowing us into your brain and world of photography for the day! x
