There are a few things I immediately want to do when its rainy and cold outside. Bake chocolate chip cookies, watch an old movie or just curl up on a comfortable couch with a good book and my favourite rainy day playlist in the background.
I thought I’d share with you my favourite movies often reserved for a rainy day because I plan on watching at least 2 of these this weekend – probably with a few chocolate chip cookies and a glass of almond milk. So grab a movie and your favourite guy (or gal) and snuggle up friend. Chocolate chip cookies optional.
A suspenseful Hitchcock movie is a must as the rain falls slowly outside and Rear Window is my favourite movie ever with Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Such an easy movie to watch and Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe are just perfect in it. I love the fashion and the songs and the tongue in cheek humour of these old musicals.
Mona Lisa Smile
This movie is a favourite for its almost autumnal soundtrack that goes along with the beautiful imagery on screen in its New England setting.
This coming of age movie came out while I was in high school so I’ll forever be 16 years old when I watch it as I crush on Lucas and wish I could pull off Liv Tyler’s tartan skirt and Doc Martin outfit.
It doesn’t need to be raining for me to break out this movie but again, I love it for the soundtrack and the imagery plus … Versailles is a dreamland.
What else would you watch while the wind whips around your house and the rain crashes down? Admittedly this thriller is not as great the second time around once the end twist is revealed but the story and characters are so well done.
Singing in the Rain
The ultimate rainy day movie and yes, another musical. I have a thing for 50’s musicals and this is a favourite with Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.
Failing those movies, you can’t go wrong with anything by Nancy Meyers but my favourites would be Somethings Got to Give and Its Complicated. Snuggle up friend!!
